The verdict
Wet food earns its place in the puppy months for two specific reasons: appetite and water. A puppy who has just moved house, or is teething, or is coming off an unsettled stomach, will often eat something soft and aromatic when they turn their nose up at dry kibble, and the moisture content quietly helps a small animal stay hydrated. Hill's lists high-quality protein for lean muscle, an antioxidant blend, and balanced minerals for bones and teeth. Palatability feedback from owners is genuinely split — some dogs clean the bowl, some refuse it — which is true of every wet food and is why buying a small quantity first is sensible. Most people use it as a topper on kibble rather than a whole diet, which is also the cheaper way to get the benefit.
